Filmed when the author was 81, “Henry Miller Asleep & Awake” is a voyage of ideas about life, writing, sex, spirituality, nightmares, and New York that captures the warmth, vigor and high animal spirits of a singular American artist. The man is Henry Miller and the room is his bathroom. It’s a miraculous shrine covered with photos and drawings collected by the author over the course of his long and fruitful life. Graciously, in his raspy, sonorous voice, he points out the highlights of his improvised gallery, speaking of philosophers, writers, painters, mad kings, women, and friends.

I was bowled over to find this.
Miller wondering around his bathroom and confirming all the great thinkers and artists like Heironymous Bosch and Carl Jung just made him seem like a great Uncle you seldom had/Have.
he really does make you laugh and that is the key to so much of his writing, that it makes you smile and feel that you can laugh at so much shit. Even more important today than he ever was and such a large back catologue to read through. It is a wonderful Artist who can go through the rainbow of experience and not lose his/her head, only become more charming and more simple with still so much to give. He was banned because people always hate someone who enjoys their life to the full with a big up middle finger to the uniformed god of civilisation.
