Technocalyps
A three-part documentary by Frank Theys
Are we prepared for dealing with the prospect that humanity is not the end of evolution? Technocalyps is an intriguing three-part documentary on the notion of transhumanism by Belgian visual artist and filmmaker Frank Theys. The latest findings in genetics, robotics, artificial intelligence, bionics and nanotechnology appear in the media every day, but with no analysis of their common aim: that of exceeding human limitations. The director conducts his enquiry into the scientific, ethical and metaphysical dimensions of technological development. The film includes interviews by top experts and thinkers on the subject worldwide, including Marvin Minsky, Terence McKenna, Hans Moravec, Bruce Sterling, Robert Anton Wilson, Richard Seed, Margareth Wertheim, Kirkpatrick Sale, Ralph C. Merkle, Mark Pesce, Ray Kurzweil, Rabbi Youssouf Kazen, Rael and many others.
Part 1: Transhuman
Part 1 gives an overview of recent technological developments (biogenetics, artificial intelligence, robotics, implants, nanotechnology,…) and prognoses made by leading scientists about the impact of these developments in the near future.
Part 2: Preparing for the Singularity
In this part advocates and opponents of a transhuman future are weighed against each other; prognoses are done when we can expect the transhuman revolution and how people are preparing for it already now.
Part 3: The Metaphysics of Technology
This part covers the metaphysical consequences of the new technological revolution. On the one hand scientist start to use metaphysical concepts to describe the impact of their research, on the other hand, a surprisingly large number of scientific projects is inspired by religious aspirations and more and more theologians from any religious or spiritual belief are getting interested in these aspirations of new technology, making the discussion inextricable complex.

I have been trying to find a full version of Technocalyps for a long time now, Dr Grey I am very grateful to you.
I’m working on a Terrence McKenna related video artwork which incorporates many of the concepts discussed in this film, rest assured I will be posting a torrent here at Greylodge when it is complete.
Thanks again.

AMAZING FILM, BUT WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO ENCODE A VISUALLY STUNNING FILM LIKE THIS WITH DUTCH PERMASUBS???
THIS FILM IS A REMIXERS DREAM BUT THE FOOL WHO ENCODED THIS HAS EFFECTIVELY RUINED SOME OF THE BEST VISUALS OUT THERE.
I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE HAS THE SENSE TO UPLOAD AN ‘OPTIONAL’ SUB VERSION. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE FILM WHICH DESERVES TO BE SHARED WITH AS MANY ‘OPTIONAL’ SUBTITLE LANGUAGES AS CAN POSSIBLY BE INCLUDED. I’M NOT A HAPPY MAN RIGHT NOW

I don’t think a warning regarding the permasubs in Dr Grey’s Technocalyps post would have acted as a deterrant to those considering a d/l of this film, which is still essential viewing regardless of the irritating subs.
Perhaps it would have helped those most exciteded by the chance of viewing this excellent documentary prepare mentally for the Horror of Permasub.

Oh stop whining you lot and let us just be thankful to have had this opportunity to see such a great piece of film!
I hardly expect things that come to me in this way, for free and by the goodness of the greylodge site, to be in store quality DVD!. It sometimes adds to the experience for me to watch a rare or experimental movie and have it with all its glory, scratched film stock, bad audio or even subs in another language that I could do without.
I just watch the movie.
I agree those subs are crap but I am also sure that if he could have brought us one without, we would have got one without the subs. So no point moaning about it then!
Hey Dr Grey - Thanks!

perhaps pissed at dr grey should have thought about how lucky they are to check this film out, pissed at permasub would have sufficed! we should all be happy to watch this film in whatever condition it comes to us, or we could go buy it and upload it without the subs if we feel that strongly about such things.
great film - thanks to dr grey.

I don’t know how many people already said it, but thank you for posting such gems! I’m anxiously waiting on the DL now. I was thrilled to see it, and even more thrilled to see McKenna is interviewed. New footage? Hopefully! =)
Thank you for your work, server, energy…
